Was Prey (2022) worth watching?

Prey cleans up the series following Shane Black's too busy clunkiness by reducing the film description (and hence the legendary extraterrestrial beast) to its pro wrestling core. Before "Predator Battle Royale," "Predator vs. Commando" became "Predator vs. Lethal Weapon." It's now "Predator vs. Native Warrior," removing any pretense and leaving little space for anything other than one perfectly staged and thrillingly savage set piece after another, arrows and tomahawks flying and drawing green blood as the ultimate hunter takes his own scalps. There's a hypothesis that you can use these movies to gauge where action moviemaking is now since 1987, and this one seems well at home in the post-JOHN WICK era: precise, well-shot pandemonium that's more than a bit showy. What a Prey good delightful surprise.
